To my Future Daughter-in-Law..💙

I'm a boy mom...no ifs, ands or buts about it.  I asked for boys, except for the momentary lapse in judgement when I sorta hoped baby #3 would be a girl, but God knew what I needed when he gave me that 3rd little boy.  If you're a mom that has been blessed with a son, you know that a son's love just hits differently.  They give the best hugs, they pick you the most beautiful weeds imaginable and think worms they've dug up are gifts.  Future mamas...do not, I repeat...do not take something from your son without seeing what's in their hand first. You will thank me later.

I always knew there'd be a day when my sons would pick their future wives and I always told my boys that I'd love their wives like they were my own children. Saying and doing are two very different things...and I'm self-aware enough to know that might be easier said than done when the time came.  Honestly, my sons made some questionable choices when it came to girlfriends and "girl friends"....I didn't have high hopes for their future selections.  I digress...  I pray(ed) a lot of prayers over these future daughters-in-law.  My first future daughter-in-law is a true testament PRAYER works ladies and gents.

A few years ago, my oldest son came home to tell me he'd met a special girl and wanted me to meet her. (Knife to the heart!!!)  He said we both share the same birthday, July 18.  I laughed at the time because I knew he had selected a girl just like his Mama.  Little did I know I was about to meet the young lady that would change my life forever, in the best way possible.

Makylee (that's her name) has become not only the daughter I never had; she's my biggest cheerleader, my makeup guru, my craft partner and most importantly the mother of my grandson.  She and Ethan hadn't planned to have a baby so young (19/21) and they've  handled that little turn of event with grace and maturity.  She's the best Mama to Bo.  It all comes so naturally to her. I wish I could say the same for me as a young mom.

Makylee loves Jesus, studies the Bible and goes to church with me on Sundays.  She also has these big, beautiful blue eyes, a great laugh, loves and respects my son, and is very witty and sarcastic, which I love the most!

We never know what God has in store for our children. As Mamas, one thing is for certain, our babies are only on loan to us for a short while and then they become adults.  I've learned that we will only get through years of raising children by holding firm onto FAITH and stay in prayer with our Heavenly Father. I still pray over my sons even though they're older.  My hope is that they'll make the right decisions aligning with God's will, look to Him for wisdom and discernment and to always pray for their future spouses.  The last one might be a stretch but this Mama made sure she prayed extra for their future spouses.

This may seem minuet to some, but if your a Mama, you know how truly important it is for your children to select the right partner. It's also so important for us Mamas to have our heart posture set properly to receive these bonus children.  After all, God created family before he even created the church.

Start praying these beautiful blessings into your children's lives now. Hold onto your faith that God is preparing the most perfect partner for your kids.  Pray that your children can discern the spouse hand selected by God against the counterfeits that Satan sends.

Ethan and Makylee will be getting married soon.  I am in awe of God and the overflowing blessings he's generously given to not only my son but to me.  I don't deserve what I've been given and my heart is truly full.

Love,
Mama Kelley (Makylee's nickname for me)

Bible verses for reflection:

Ruth 4:15: "He will renew your life and sustain you in your old age. For your daughter-in-law, who loves you and who is better to you than seven sons, has given him birth" (NIV).

Proverbs 31:10: "A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies" (NIV).

1 Samuel 1:27-28 – "For this child I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition... Therefore I also have lent him to the Lord; as long as he lives he shall be lent to the Lord."
